1) Place the coils over both temporal lobes. Other placements are possible,
but these are a matter of custom design and individual preferences. This placement has been found to be the most
likely to elicit altered states in the lab, but each brain is different, and your most effective session may be
different.
2) Use sensory deprivation as much as possible. Use a blindfold or other
total eye cover. Do your session in complete silence. Earplugs are suggested. A large amount of your temporal lobe's
ongoing activity is devoted to monitoring ambient sound, so silence will help. People have tried using white noise,
but without success.
3) Select your signal. There are several a candidates. Of the signals
provided with Shakti, the Amygdaloid signal is the best tested, followed by the hippocampal signal. The amygdaloid signal
is more likely to elicit emotional effects, while the hippocampal signals are more likely to elicit cognitive effects. The Modulated 40hz Signal is one of the
best candidates in principle, though it is not well-tested in practice.
